Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) uses meditation, yoga and inquiry as a way of supporting people to relate differently to stresses in their lives, and in fact, relate differently to each moment of their lives. It was originally developed in the late 1970s for patients in chronic pain, those undergoing intensive treatments for cancer, AIDS and other serious illness. It has since expanded and been incorporated into the daily lives of ten of thousands of people whether they are dealing with the challenges of illness or simply day-to-day stress.

I’m pleased to be co-teaching this course with Lisa:

Lisa Biersay works as a United Nations prosecutor of atrocity crimes.  She has dedicated almost 20 years to being a prosecutor, not only in the international context, but also as a prosecutor within the US Department of Justice and New York State Office of the Attorney General.  Having begun her mindfulness journey in 2009, she became a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, trained and qualified by the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2018. She has offered mindfulness workshops, including for participants working in the field of international criminal justice. She relies on mindfulness tools to promote self-care, to support survivors of violent crimes, and to lead diverse teams working in high-pressure fields.
